Appreciation post: gave up the $200 spinning reel for a $40 one and I am landing more fish
For years I ran a $200 Shimano reel on my bass rod because a guy at the tackle shop in Tulsa swore I needed it for smooth drag. Last month the bearing seized on day two of a lake trip, so I grabbed a cheap $40 reel out of the truck as a backup and honestly I cannot tell the difference on hooksets. Anyone else find the budget gear holding up better than the pricey stuff, or did I just get lucky with this one?

Bearings are the first thing to go on those fancy reels anyway, so your cheap one might just outlast it.
