Walk-in cooler jammed shut with a quarter beef inside

Had the handle snap off the walk-in door last July in Spokane, right before the lunch rush. Stood there 20 minutes using a box cutter to pry the latch loose, meanwhile the owner's yelling through the door about the bacon order. Anyone else ever rig a emergency opener for those old cooler handles?
