Vent: My band saw motor gave out mid-way through a big custom order

It happened Tuesday afternoon while I was breaking down a side of beef for a local restaurant's weekend special. The motor just seized up with a nasty grinding sound. I had to finish the whole order by hand with a breaking knife, which added like 3 hours to my day. I'm torn between just getting the motor rebuilt for about $400 or finally upgrading the whole unit. Has anyone had a similar breakdown and what did you end up doing?

Ugh, my buddy's bandsaw did the same thing last year.

Why would you even consider sinking more money into an old motor? That breakdown cost you three hours of extra work right now, and a rebuild is just a temporary fix. You said it yourself this was a big custom order, so your business is growing and needs reliable gear. A new bandsaw is an investment that won't leave you hanging during the next rush job. That old motor could fail again next month and then you're out the rebuild cost plus more lost time.
