Old school band saw vs a new one at my shop last week

I ran a 1980s Hobart for 8 years at my last place and swore by it. New boss bought a brand new Biro for our shop and I honestly think the blade wander is worse on the shiny one after 30 pounds of pork shoulder. Anyone else find that newer equipment doesn't always beat the older stuff for steady work?

Oh man I used to roll my eyes when old timers said new equipment was junk. I was all about shiny new stuff until we got a brand new vacuum tumbler at my last place and it was a nightmare right out of the box. We spent a week fighting with the seal and the old one from 2005 just needed a gasket swap every few months. Your story about the band saw seals the deal for me. I'm officially on team old school after hearing that.

Yeah no kidding @willow407. The seals on those new band saws are paper thin. We had to replace ours twice in the first year and the old one from 2010 still had the original gasket.

Solidarity all the way on this one. I still remember when my gym bought brand new treadmills and within six months the motors were acting up. The old ones they replaced were from the early 2000s and still running smooth after a belt change here and there. It's like they just don't make things to last anymore. You spend good money expecting an upgrade and end up with a headache instead. Nothing beats that feeling when the old faithful machine just keeps chugging along.
