I swear the ribeyes from the same supplier look different now
Been getting beef from the same place for 3 years, and the last 2 months the ribeyes have this weird grey tint before they even hit the case. Anyone else notice their supplier change things up without saying anything?

Everything is getting cheapened out on these days and nobody says a word. Restaurants shrink portions, grocery stores swap out real butter for margarine in their bakery stuff, and now your supplier is quietly downgrading the beef. It's the same pattern with everything - they keep the same price but the quality slides until you're paying more for less. If the grey tint is there before it even hits the display case, that means the meat is oxidizing faster which usually points to a different aging method or older stock. Compare the smell and feel next time. If it's slimy or has a sour smell, they definitely switched something up. Once you start noticing this stuff in one area, you see it everywhere.

That gray tint is a bad sign man. Check the pack date and see if it's from before they switched things up. If the dates are similar but the color is different, they might have changed their aging process or even the feed. Sometimes suppliers start mixing in grass-fed or older stock without telling anyone. Ask your supplier straight up if they changed their supplier or the grade of beef. You could also try a different cut for a bit like a strip or a sirloin to see if the issue is just the ribeyes. If the smell or texture feels off too, I'd find a new place.
