Why do people treat their habit tracker like a scoreboard to win instead of a tool to use?
I see so many bujo spreads on r/bulletjournal and Instagram where someone does 30 days of perfect checkmarks then quits the whole journal in month 2 because they missed one Tuesday, and I want to know if anyone else has noticed this pattern too?
Used to roll my eyes at posts like this because I figured if someone wants to turn their habits into a game then whatever works, right? But then I watched a friend do exactly what you're describing, like 28 days of green checkmarks and then one missed Wednesday sent her into a spiral and she threw the whole notebook in a drawer and never touched it again. That's when it clicked for me that the streak is the problem, not the person. The tracker stops being a mirror and turns into a judge, and nobody wants to face a judge every morning. Once a missed day means you lost, you're not tracking a habit anymore, you're playing a game that only has one ending. The people who stick with it seem to treat blank spots as info, like oh I skip this on weekends, noted, and just keep going.
