TIL my 'simple' habit tracker took 6 weeks to actually stick
I kept trying to add a 10-line habit tracker to my monthly spread and it just kept falling apart after day 3, so I spent a solid 8 weeks testing different layouts before figuring out I only needed 4 habits max. Has anyone else spent way too long on a layout that should have been dead simple?

My friend Sam spent three months designing the perfect to-do list app and then never used it.

Why would you say the planning part is more satisfying? If Sam spent three months building it, that's time they could have spent actually getting things done with a basic list on paper.

and honestly i think the problem is we get so caught up in making things "perfect" that we lose sight of why we wanted them in the first place. like the app itself becomes the project instead of the actual tasks you're supposed to do. sam probably had a ton of fun building it and tweaking every little feature and that was the real reward, not using it for chores or work. it reminds me of people who spend hours organizing their bookshelves but never actually read the books. sometimes the planning and designing part is just more satisfying than the boring routine of checking stuff off a list. so maybe sam just needed to accept that the app was a creative hobby, not a productivity tool.
