I finally get the hype around a simple monthly layout after years of complex spreads
For like 2 years I was doing these elaborate weekly spreads with trackers and doodles and my bujo looked like a piece of art but I was spending 3 hours every Sunday setting it up. Last month I tried a dead simple monthly calendar with a tiny habit tracker on the side after seeing it on a post from someone in Portland. It took me 20 minutes to set up and I actually used it every day instead of feeling guilty about the pretty pages I never touched. Has anyone else switched to a simpler setup and felt way more productive?

My sister went through the same thing but she actually went back to her complex layouts after a month. She said the simple calendar made her feel like she was just writing things down without any of the creative spark that got her into journaling in the first place. I have a friend named Marcus who tried minimalist planning and ended up missing deadlines because he stopped checking his bujo altogether without the fun spreads drawing him in every day. For me personally the act of making those elaborate pages is half the reason I stick with my planner - if it feels like a chore to look at I just won't bother opening it.
