My hotel bill in Lisbon went from 80 euros a night to 45...

I was looking at a place for a week in October and the price was just too high. I checked again yesterday, exactly 47 days before the trip, and the same room was almost half off. Does that 45-60 day window before a trip usually work for finding deals?

Found the opposite, prices usually go up closer to my dates.

@milesj70 my luck means prices spike the second I even open the app.

Booking a flight to Denver last month showed me the same thing. I checked three weeks out and it was almost double what it was two months before. It feels like the old rule about last minute deals is totally dead now. The airlines have it figured out to squeeze us when we're stuck. I just have to set a price alert and buy the second it looks okay, even if it's way early.
