Unpopular opinion: meal prepping on Sunday ruins your whole week if something goes wrong

I spent $45 last Monday prepping 5 days of lentil soup and roasted veggies, then a work emergency had me eating fast food every night anyway, so which side wins out for you - disciplined planning or just buying cheap staples and cooking day-of?

...and that's exactly why I just accepted I'm a chaos cook now. My worst was when I prepped 15 mason jar salads and then my kid spilled grape juice all over them before I even left the house. I spent the whole week making weird fridge salads out of whatever survived the flood.

Man, screw that. Meal prep only works if you live like a robot. Last time I did it my fridge broke and I ate sad warm chicken for two days. Just keep rice, eggs, and frozen veggies around. Cook as you go, less stress, less waste.

Totally with you on the warm chicken thing, @rowan725. Did the same once when my power went out and had to choke down half cooked veggies. My go-to is a big batch of rice in the rice cooker and then just fry up whatever protein and veg I have on hand each night. Eggs and frozen spinach are literal lifesavers for that.
