TIL my '15 minute' bean prep actually takes an hour and a half
I got this idea from a YouTube video that said you can save money by buying dry beans instead of canned. They made it sound so easy, like just soak them and boil for 15 minutes. I figured I could whip up a batch for dinner after work real quick. Well, I forgot that you gotta soak them for like 8 hours first, so that plan died immediately. Then after soaking, the actual cooking time was more like 45 minutes to an hour, not 15. So from start to finish, including rinsing and waiting for the water to boil, it took me a solid 90 minutes. I was so hangry by the time they were done I almost ordered pizza anyway. Anyone else get tricked by those quick cooking claims on food blogs?

Ngl, I gotta call this one out. You saw a video that said 15 minutes and you really thought that included soaking time? That's on you, not the recipe. Nobody's bean prep is ever 15 minutes unless you're opening a can. Soaking is literally the whole point of dry beans. The hangry thing is a little dramatic too, just eat a snack while they cook. This is like being mad that a 5 minute rice recipe doesn't count the time to boil the water. It's not that deep, man.

Is it really that serious though? Like yeah the person got the prep time wrong, but I dunno, getting hangry is kind of a real thing for some people. Not everyone keeps snacks on hand or thinks ahead like that. I just don't get why we gotta act like every little food mistake is some huge deal online. Feels like people are just looking for something to be mad about sometimes.

Blame the whole "quick and easy" food culture honestly, @paigem45. Everything online is optimized for clicks and good lighting, not real life. YouTube and bloggers love to stretch the truth because nobody's gonna watch a video called "Start your beans the night before and then simmer for an hour." It's the same trap with those "5 minute meal prep" posts that don't count washing dishes or chopping veggies. I think people are just tired of being sold a fantasy and then feeling dumb when reality hits, even if it's just beans lol.
