My neighbor was right about dry beans all along

I always used canned beans because I thought dry beans took too long and weren't worth the hassle. Last month my neighbor said I was wasting money and that dry beans taste way better for half the price. I finally tried it with a bag of pinto beans I soaked overnight and cooked for about an hour. Ended up saving like $2 per meal and the texture was way firmer than canned. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a big difference in taste?

Funny you say that, I was the exact same way till I tried soaking my own.

The water quality matters more than most people realize. I switched from tap to filtered water when soaking mine and the difference was night and day. Hard water leaves this weird film on everything and messes with the texture. Also letting them sit overnight instead of just a few hours really changes how they turn out.

I remember the first time I tried it @linda500, I was really skeptical too. I had always bought the pre-made stuff from the store because it was just easier and I thought it would taste the same anyway. But after a friend kept raving about how much better her homemade version was, I finally gave it a shot last month and honestly it changed my whole view. The flavor is so much richer and fresher, I can't believe I waited this long to try it. Now I probably won't go back to buying it, even if it takes a little more time. So yeah, I totally get what you mean about being in that same spot before.
