My neighbor Momma Jean changed how I think about cheap rice

She told me to stop buying the 50 pound bag at the bulk store and just get the store brand in a box. She said the bulk stuff needs more rinsing and seasoning to taste good, and four boxes of the cheap stuff last me just as long for $6 less total. Has anyone else noticed a real taste difference between bulk and boxed rice?

Got a buddy who swore by bulk rice for years until his girlfriend accidentally grabbed the wrong box at the store. He made it without rinsing and said it was the best rice he'd ever had. @jade_singh totally nailed why that extra $6 is worth it.

Three bags of rice a month for ten years and I'm supposed to believe one box flipped his whole world upside down? Most of these "best rice ever" stories end up being about the pot or the heat setting anyway. People act like spending six bucks saves you from a culinary crisis when really it's just rice.

Honestly, Momma Jean is onto something, and I say this as someone who once bought bulk rice and spent so long rinsing it I almost missed my own dinner. That store brand box rice might not look fancy, but at least it doesn't need a whole water cycle just to taste like anything. Ngl, I've eaten enough sad, crunchy bulk rice to know the extra $6 is worth skipping a bad batch.
