My mom told me I was salting my pasta water wrong for 20 years

I always just tossed a pinch of salt in the pot. One Sunday my mom watched me and laughed. She said I needed at least a tablespoon for a full box of pasta. I thought she was crazy until I tried it last month. The noodles actually tasted seasoned all the way through. Now I measure it out like she does. She also said to save the pasta water for sauces instead of dumping it. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on a basic cooking habit?

Tbsp of salt sounds about right, but honestly my pasta's fine either way.
