I thought buying chicken breasts was the cheap move at Kroger until my aunt pointed at my cart
For years I grabbed the boneless skinless packs at Kroger in Dayton because they felt like the smart, cheap pick at around $4.99 a pound back in 2011. My aunt took one look at my cart last month and said whole birds were going for 99 cents a pound, and I just stood there doing the math in my head. Has anyone else switched to breaking down a whole chicken, or do you just grab the quarters when they go on sale?
Did your aunt also make you feel kinda dumb for not noticing sooner? I did the same thing forever, grabbing those $5 packs at Kroger without even looking at the whole birds chilling right next to them. My neighbor showed me a 99 cent per pound fryer last year and I just stared at it like it was a math problem I failed. Now I grab quarters when they hit 79 cents and roast two at a time, way more meat for the money. It stings a little realizing how much I overspent, but hey, at least we know now lol.
