I finally stopped buying those expensive bagged salad mixes
For years I was spending $4-5 a bag on pre-washed salad kits from the grocery store near my apartment in Austin. Then last month I bought a head of green leaf lettuce for 89 cents and a head of red cabbage for a buck fifty and made my own mix that lasted two full weeks. Has anyone else switched to buying whole heads and prepping them yourself for the savings?

...and honestly the texture thing is the biggest difference nobody talks about. Like those bagged mixes have this weird slimy feel by day three even if they're not actually bad. I got really into growing microgreens on my kitchen counter last spring and now I just snip what I need for each meal. Takes like 10 days to grow a batch and it's way crunchier than anything from a bag. The initial seed cost was like $12 but I'm still using the same bag three months later.

Don't microgreens need like 4-5 days, not 10?
