Finally cracked the code on cheap chicken thighs - they don't have to be dry

So last Tuesday I was in my tiny kitchen trying to stretch $40 for the whole week. Had this pack of chicken thighs that were on clearance for $3.50. Normally I just bake em and they come out sad and chewy. But my neighbor came over to borrow a hammer and saw me struggling. She's like "yo, try braising them in a can of cheap tomato sauce with some onions." Threw it all in a pot on low for like 45 minutes. Came out so tender I couldn't believe it. Cost maybe $4 total for dinner plus leftovers. Has anyone else found a weird cheap trick that turned a boring ingredient into something good?

Did I finally find a way to not ruin the cheapest meat in the store or is that just beginner's luck?

Braising chicken isn't exactly rocket science...

Not quite braising at 45 minutes though, that's more of a quick simmer.
