Dried beans seemed like a hassle, but my wallet says otherwise
I used to buy canned beans for convenience, but the cost added up. After trying dried beans, I found that soaking them overnight isn't so bad (and they taste better, honestly). Now I make big batches and freeze them. What are your favorite bean recipes that save money?

Took me three tries to remember to actually soak them overnight. My go-to is just dumping a ton of beans, canned tomatoes, and whatever veggies are sad in the fridge into a pot for chili.

Set a phone reminder for the night before you cook. Honestly though, the sad veggie chili method works shockingly well every single time.

Oh man, the flavor difference is HUGE, right? I saw @lee72 mentioned the sad veggie chili method, which is a total winner, but you don't actually need to soak beans overnight for that! A quick soak works fine - just boil them for a few minutes, then let them sit off the heat for an hour. My favorite cheap recipe is just those beans cooked with a smoked ham hock, some onion, and a ton of black pepper. It makes the whole house smell amazing and you get meals for days.
