That old timer I argued with about mixing mud by hand vs machine

Ran into a 60 year old bricklayer at a 30-unit townhouse job in Phoenix last Friday who swore my mixer was ruining the batch. He went off for 10 minutes about how you can feel the lime better by hand - made me think maybe I've been cutting corners without realizing it. Any of you guys still mix by hand or is that just boomer talk?

Dad mixed by hand for 40 years and now his back doesn't even let him stand straight.

Old school methods break you down fast. Respect the knowledge but my back says keep the machine running.
