Put $70 into a mortar mixer attachment that threw mud everywhere on the first job
The thing claimed it would save time but it just slung my mix all over the lawn and I had to hand mix the rest anyway, anyone else had bad luck with those?

Wait, @simons28 you're telling me that cheap paddle mixer actually burned out on your second bucket? That's pretty wild, I figured those things would at least finish a full job before dying. I had the same issue with the RPM being way too high for mortar, my paddle was actually flinging wet mix over my shoulder like a sprinkler. How did you even get a refund on that thing without them blaming you for using it wrong?

Well a $70 mortar mixer sounds like one of those cheap barrel-style paddle mixers from a big box store, not a real professional unit. Those things usually come with a 1/2 inch chuck and can't handle thick mud without overheating. I had one that burned out the motor on the second bucket because the mixing paddle was too small for the bucket size. Did you check the RPM rating too? Most mortar needs a slower speed around 300-400 RPM not the 600+ those things run at.
