Leveled a footer with a 6-foot level and a prayer, worked out

Got a small retaining wall job last month over by the river district. The footing was off by almost two inches on one end, and my laser level battery died on site. Grabbed my old 6-foot level, some shims, and just worked it by eye. Laid all 80 blocks over two days, checked it after, dead on within a quarter inch. Sometimes the old tools just get it done. Anyone else had a laser die and had to wing it with a hand level?
