Just realized my mortar joints got tighter after I stopped using the mixer and started hand mixing small batches
I do mostly small repair jobs around Cleveland, nothing huge. For years I'd drag out the paddle mixer for even a half bag of mortar. Then my drill burnt out in March and I was too cheap to buy a new one, so I started mixing by hand in a bucket with a hoe. My joints went from sloppy and wet looking to tight and clean in about 3 weeks. Turns out I was over mixing and adding too much water without knowing it. Anyone else mix by hand for small work or am I just late to the party?
