Don't buy cheap mortar mix from Big Box. Learned the hard way.

Grabbed a pallet of that $5.99 mortar mix from Home Depot for a patio job last spring. Thought I was saving money but it crumbled after just one freeze thaw cycle. Had to rip out 3 days of work and redo it with the good stuff from the local yard for $12 a bag. Anyone else get burned by bargain bin mortar?

Same thing happened to my neighbor with that cheap sand mix. Went with the local stuff and it's held up fine through two winters now. Sometimes you gotta pay a little more to save a lot of headache.

Paid 40 bucks more for the Maine blend last spring. The cheap stuff turned to mud after one rain. No regrets.
