Can we settle this: mortar boards or a hawk and trowel for spreading on big garage walls?
For my first 6 years I spread everything by hand with a hawk and trowel, and I swore a mortar board was for guys who couldn't keep a line straight. Then I took a 60 by 40 garage job in Gary, Indiana with 1,200 blocks and my wrist was shot by day 3, so I borrowed a board and cut my spread time in half. My old boss says boards make you sloppy on thin joints, and he's got a point (you can't feel the wall the same way). But I think that's a skill issue, not a board issue. What do you all run on long straight runs, and did anyone actually go back to the hawk after switching?
