Unpopular opinion: my $180 Keurig died after 14 months and I went back to a $20 drip maker from Target
My Keurig just quit on me last month, 14 months after I bought it for $180 at a Bed Bath in Chicago. The descaling light came on and then it just stopped pulling water at all, no warning, nothing. I called support and the guy basically read a script at me for 20 minutes before offering me 15% off a new one. I drove to Target that same day and grabbed a $20 Mr. Coffee drip machine, and my coffee tastes the same or better. Why do we keep paying premium prices for machines that barely outlast the box they came in?
I mean, 14 months does suck for $180 but is it really some big scandal? My roommate had a Keurig that lasted like 4 years and my mom's cheap drip maker died in 8 months, so it kind of seems like luck of the draw with any of these machines. And the coffee tasting the same is probably more about the pods than the machine honestly. Maybe it's just me but I feel like every appliance is built to die now, not just the pricey ones. Still, calling them out on it and getting your $20 fix seems fair enough.
