TIL my old way of picking a phone case was a total waste of money

I dropped my phone on the sidewalk last week and the cheap case I bought online for $12 just cracked. My friend, who has the same phone, dropped his from a ladder at work and his OtterBox case was fine. I realized I kept buying a new cheap case every few months instead of just getting one good one once. Has anyone else had a brand they stuck with after a moment like that?

Watched my phone bounce down a flight of concrete stairs in a flimsy case, looked like a glitter bomb went off. I was basically funding a case-of-the-month club for myself. Finally got a Spigen one after that disaster and it's been through hell, looks brand new. Why do we always learn the hard way with this stuff?

My OtterBox has survived three phones now.

Spigen is my go to now too. Had one of those super thin clear cases that turned yellow in like a month and did nothing when I dropped my phone on pavement. Finally caved and got a Spigen and I've dropped it more times than I can count with zero damage. The fit is tight, buttons still work, and it doesn't feel like a brick in my pocket like some cases do. Definitely learned the hard way that paying $12 over and over adds up to way more than just buying a solid case once.
