Threw away $80 on that 'magic' drill bit sharpener from Instagram

Saw an ad for this handheld sharpener that claimed to bring back any drill bit in 5 seconds. Got it in the mail last Tuesday and tried it on a dull 1/4 inch bit from my Dewalt set. All it did was chew up the cutting edge and make the bit wobble worse than before. Anyone else fall for one of those viral tool gadgets that just don't work?

Man that stinks. I bet the real problem is those sharpeners take off way too much metal way too fast. They don't give you any control over the angle either. A drill bit needs the right clearance angle behind the cutting edge to actually bite into the material. Those gadgets just grind away at whatever angle they want and ruin the geometry. I learned this the hard way years ago with a similar thing. Better off just buying a cheap bench grinder and a guide jig for the same money.
