The loyalty to my $12 coffee maker survived a fancy $300 one moving in
My sister gave me her old espresso machine when she moved to Denver 6 months ago, and I figured my $12 drip maker was finally headed for the donation bin. I ran both side by side for 3 weeks and here is the thing, the espresso machine took 8 minutes of fiddling every morning and the drip pot took 90 seconds start to finish. She kept telling me it was about the ritual, but I just want coffee before 6am, not a hobby. I boxed the espresso machine back up and it is sitting in my garage, so am I crazy for going back to the cheap one or is there some trick I never figured out?
My uncle did the same thing with a bread maker years back. Got one as a gift, used it twice, then it sat in his pantry for a decade until his wife finally made him toss it. He still buys the cheap loaf from the store and swears it tastes the same. Some stuff just is not worth the hassle no matter what it costs or who swears by it. You are not crazy, you just know what you actually want in the morning.
