The $40 dash cam that flipped my opinion on cheap gear

I've been a die-hard brand snob for years, especially with electronics. Last month my $180 dash cam died on a Tuesday, so I grabbed a $40 one off Amazon to get by. I figured it would be garbage, but the video quality is honestly on par with the pricey one. It took me about 3 tries to get the mount to stick in my truck, which annoyed me. But after a close call on I-35 where a car swerved into my lane, the footage caught the plate crystal clear. That's when I realized I was paying for the name, not the performance. Has anyone else had a budget product surprise them in a good way?
