Switched from generic store brand to Dawn dish soap a year ago and my pans look new again

My cast iron skillet was basically ruined with old grease. A friend told me to try Dawn Powerwash and it stripped it clean in minutes. That stuff is like magic for baked-on messes.

Did that powerwash strip off any seasoning too or just the gunk? Worried about using something that strong on my pan and having to reseason from scratch.

My grandma's old pan had the same thick black gunk. I soaked it in hot water with a scoop of baking soda overnight. The grease just wiped right off the next morning.
