Spent $400 on a Sony receiver from 1992. Totally worth it.
Found it at a thrift store in Eugene. Heavy as hell. Plugged it in and it sounded way better than my $600 modern one. These old units just have better build quality. No HDMI or anything fancy but the audio is clean. My buddies keep telling me to get a new one. Has anyone else gone back to older gear and found it actually beats new stuff?

Wait, your buddies told you to get rid of a tank that weighs more than a small car and sounds like heaven? Sounds like they're the ones who need new gear, not you. I bet they also think Beats headphones are high end. My friend did the same thing with a Denon from 1988 and it blew his $1,200 Marantz out of the water. Just tell 'em your vintage receiver has more soul than their entire streaming setup.
