Spent $280 on a Canon printer and it died after 6 months
I bought this Canon PIXMA last January because everyone said they were reliable. Worked great for about 4 months, then it started jamming every third page. By month 6, the printhead just gave up and I was getting error codes I couldn't fix. Took it to a repair shop and they said the part costs more than a new printer. Now I'm stuck wondering if I should just go with Brother or HP next time. Anyone else have a printer brand that actually lasted more than a year without issues?

Honestly my buddy had almost the exact same thing happen with his Canon. He bought one of those all-in-one models for like $200 and it worked perfectly for maybe 5 months then just started glitching out. The paper feed rollers got all chewed up and it wouldn't even take paper anymore. He ended up getting a Brother laser printer for around $150 and it's been running for 2 years now without a single problem. I think these inkjet companies design them to break on purpose honestly. Tbh I'd say just skip HP too, I've heard similar stories about their printers dying right after the warranty ends.

Oh man, @the_rose, you hit the nail on the head. My sister had a Canon all-in-one that started refusing to recognize the ink cartridges after about six months. She'd buy new ones, install them, and it'd tell her they were empty or incompatible. Total waste of money. I finally convinced her to switch to a Brother laser printer and she hasn't had a lick of trouble since. It really does feel like they purposely build these things to fail right after the warranty runs out.

Your sister's story is almost identical to what happened to my cousin with his Canon printer. I think people mix up HP and Canon a lot because they both make inkjets that are basically disposable. @the_rose is right to warn about HP too, but actually the cartridge chip thing is a well known issue across most inkjet brands now, not just Canon. My cousin finally gave up and got a Brother black and white laser for $130 and it's been running like new for three years straight. The printer industry really figured out how to make money selling you a machine that forces you to keep buying overpriced ink until it bricks itself.
