PSA: Stop using dish soap on your cutting boards it ruins the wood
I kept wondering why my walnut boards were drying out and cracking after a few months. Switched to just vinegar and mineral oil, and the one I got 18 months ago still looks new. Anyone else ditch soap on wood boards yet?

@felix147 you're right to question stuff, but the real twist here is that the soap isn't even the main problem. It's the water. People soak boards or run them under the tap forever, and that moisture gets trapped in the grain. I switched to a quick wipe with vinegar, then a mineral oil soak once a month. No soap, no standing water. My maple board from 2020 still has no cracks. The drying out comes from over-wetting, not the soap itself.
