Overheard a guy at Home Depot swearing by Whirlpool washers

I was grabbing some PVC pipes last Saturday and this older guy was telling his son that Whirlpool was the only brand worth buying. He said his last one ran for 18 years with just one belt replacement. It got me thinking about how some people just pick a brand once and never look back, even when newer options come out. Do you think that kind of loyalty is based on real quality or just habit?
