Okay, I finally get the whole 'buy once, cry once' thing with boots
I wore out a $60 pair in under a year, but my Red Wings have lasted me 3 years of daily site work and just need new soles. Why do people keep buying the cheap ones over and over?

Well, cheap boots don't just fall apart from age if you take care of them. My office buddy has had the same Timberlands for like five years just from keeping them clean and dry.

My first pair of Red Wings lasted me almost seven years with two resoles. Piper_burns makes a good point about light use, but even for weekend wear I found the cheap ones just don't hold their shape or stay comfortable. The upfront cost is tough, but spreading it over a decade of wear makes the math work.

Lasted me 3 years of daily site work" is the key part though. Not everyone is putting that kind of mileage on them. For someone in an office or just light weekend stuff, a cheaper pair might actually make sense before they just fall apart from age.
