My uncle told me to never buy a cheap power tool, and my Ryobi drill proved him right
He said, 'If it's under fifty bucks, it's junk,' when I was fixing my deck last spring. I ignored him and got a Ryobi because the price was good. The chuck gave out after three uses, and I had to buy a new drill anyway. Anyone else have a brand they stuck with after a cheap one let them down?

Ryobi's okay for light stuff, but their drills just don't hold up. Switched to a basic DeWalt after my Ryobi driver stripped its own gears. That thing has survived two full bathroom remodels without a hiccup. You really do get what you pay for.

Jenny391 is totally right about the gear stripping, seen it happen with my buddy's Ryobi impact driver. It just gave out while we were putting up a simple deck. My old DeWalt hammer drill is a tank though, it even handled mixing bags of concrete last summer. That extra cost up front really does save you from buying the same tool twice.

Did @jenny391's drill just give up?
