My switch from Canon to Fuji after dropping my 5D Mark III on a hike
I used to carry a heavy Canon setup everywhere, even on short trips up to Mount Tamalpais. Then last spring I slipped on a wet rock and cracked the body beyond repair. Picked up a used Fuji X-T3 for about $800 and now I actually bring my camera places instead of leaving it in the car. Has anyone else switched systems for convenience over specs?

Carrying a 2 pound rig vs a 1 pound rig is not that big a deal for most people, especially if you actually like your gear. You cracked your camera from a fall, that's bad luck not some systemic Canon problem. People act like switching brands will fix all their problems when really it just means you're spending money to avoid using a better strap.

You hit the nail on the head about the strap thing. I used to think I needed a whole new system but then I just got a BlackRapid strap and it changed everything for me. Carrying my old Nikon D750 with a 24-70 around my shoulder felt way easier than a tiny mirrorless swinging from my neck. People blame the gear but sometimes it's just how you carry it.

I mean sure, I get it. I've seen people act like carrying a D850 is a war crime or something. But look, you dropped your camera. That can happen with any camera. I've seen someone drop a Sony A7 on a sidewalk and it was toast too. The real question is how often are you actually slipping on wet rocks? For me it's like once every few years. I still pack my Canon 6D on hikes, and yeah it's heavy, but I just use a better strap and a Peak Design clip. I think people act like going from a 2 pound setup to a 1 pound setup is this huge life change. It's a pound, not a house.
