My old work boots finally gave out after eight years, so I bought a new pair of the same brand for $180.

I was on my feet for a ten hour shift and the sole on my left boot split clean across. I went to the store the next day and got the newer version of the same brand without even looking at others. They felt broken in after just two shifts. Has anyone else stuck with a brand for that long just because the old ones were so good?

Is that brand loyalty or just being stubborn?

Look at it as a sunk cost thing, alice336. People stick with a brand because they've already put in the time to learn its weird menus or bought all the accessories. Switching feels like wasting that past effort, not loyalty.

What about the social cost of switching? If all your friends use Apple and you move to Android, suddenly you're the green bubble in the group chat. That's not just about menus, it's about being left out of shared features or even jokes. The brand becomes part of your social circle.
