I used to think brand loyalty was just stubbornness, then I saw my mechanic's 22 year old truck
I always rolled my eyes at people who would only buy one brand of anything. Seemed like they were just too lazy to try something new. Then last Tuesday I was waiting at my mechanic Dave's shop in Boise while he finished up my brakes. He's got this old Ford F-150 parked out front, 1998 model, 410,000 miles on it. I asked him why he doesn't get something newer and he laughed and said he's put maybe $4,000 into it over 15 years, just oil changes and tires and a water pump. That got me thinking about my own junk. I've been through three different brands of trucks in the last eight years, and I've spent way more than that just on payments. He told me his secret is he only buys parts from one place because he knows exactly what fits and what lasts. So now I'm sitting here wondering if brand loyalty is actually just being smart about avoiding mistakes. Has anyone else had a moment where a cheap old thing made you rethink why you keep switching?
