Hit 5000 miles on my Honda Civic last month and still haven't fixed the check engine light

I know people are loyal to Toyota or whatever but my 2013 Civic just rolled over 5000 miles... wait no, that's 5000 since I bought it used, not total. Point is it's at 185,000 miles total and that stupid light has been on for 2 years but it runs fine. Why do people stick with Honda? Because they take abuse. My buddy's Ford died at 120k. Has anyone else just ignored a check engine light for that long and gotten away with it?

My dad's old Civic made it to 220k with a broken radio and a check engine light that's been blinking since the Bush administration.

Had the same kind of luck with my old Camry, it finally gave out at 230k with a check engine light that came on at 90k and just never turned off. That car was a total beater, tape deck busted and the driver's seat was held together with duct tape, but it started every single morning without fail. Really makes you wonder why we spend all that money on new cars when the old ones just keep going like that.
