Got burned chasing a 'deal' on lawn gear last month and I'm still mad about it
So three years ago I bought a Honda mower and a Stihl trimmer, both used, and they ran fine for two full seasons until my neighbor talked me into trying some off brand combo kit from a big box store in April. He swore the reviews were great and I figured saving $180 was worth it, which was dumb because by the second mow the self propel was already slipping and the trimmer line kept welding itself together in the heat. Last month the mower just died mid cut in my front yard, deck belt snapped, and the store told me parts would take six weeks since nobody stocks them. Meanwhile my old Honda is still sitting in the shed and fired up on the second pull after I put fresh gas in it. I get why brand loyal folks get so stubborn about this stuff, because the cheap route cost me three Saturdays and a lawn that looked like a hayfield. Has anyone actually found a budget brand that holds up past two seasons, or am I just paying Honda and Stihl prices forever now?
