Goodyear tires are overrated for winter driving
I keep hearing people swear by Goodyear Wranglers for snow, but my set slipped all over I-94 in Michigan last January. A buddy at the shop showed me his Nokian Hakkapeliittas after 60,000 miles and they still gripped better than my brand new Goodyears. Anyone else ditch a big name brand for a smaller tire maker and get better results?

I read somewhere that a lot of the big tire brands actually source their winter rubber from the same places, just different tread patterns. Makes you wonder if you're paying for the name more than the tire itself.

Paying for the name" describes my budget perfectly.

Ngl that's not quite right. Most big brands like Goodyear or Michelin actually make their own winter rubber compounds in different factories. The tread pattern is part of it but the rubber mix itself is where the real grip comes from.
