Compared premium gas to regular in my lawn mower for 3 months straight
I got a new Honda mower last spring and kept using regular gas like I always did. After 2 months it started bogging down on thick grass, so I tried premium for a change. Night and day difference - it ran smoother, started on the first pull every time, and even seemed to use less fuel. Has anyone else noticed a big jump with higher octane in small engines, or is my mower just picky?

That 87 octane is actually fine for most small engines unless they're knocking or pinging like crazy. Are you sure the premium wasn't just cleaner gas with less ethanol mixed in?

Honestly same thing happened with my toro snowblower last winter. Regular gas made it sputter and die all the time, switched to premium and it ran like a dream immediately. My dad thought I was wasting money until he tried it on his old craftsman mower and it solved all his startup problems too.
