Overheard a guy at the bus stop say he watched The Godfather on his phone during his commute and thought it was boring.

I was waiting for the 42 bus last Tuesday and this dude tells his friend he finally watched The Godfather. He said he watched it in 10 minute chunks on his phone during his commute. Called it slow and confusing. I get that not everyone loves old movies, but watching it like that kills the pacing. You miss the whole mood and buildup. Anyone else feel like some movies just don't work unless you give them your full attention in one sitting?

Is it really that deep though? It's a movie, not a religious experience.

Add to that the fact he's watching it on a tiny screen with subway noise blasting in his ears. You miss all the subtle stuff, like the way the lighting changes in the restaurant scene or the silence before the horse head shows up. Movies like that are built around atmosphere and long takes, not quick cuts and action every 30 seconds. The Godfather practically begs you to sit in a dark room and let it wash over you. Watching it on a phone during rush hour is like trying to appreciate a steak dinner while running for a train.
