I wrote off Metro 2033 as just another shooter for 2 years. Finally played it during a 12 hour shift.

I work security at a construction site in Phoenix. From 6pm to 6am nothing happens so I play games. A buddy kept pushing Metro 2033 on me. I figured it was just another run and gun with scary monsters. Then I played it on Ranger Hardcore last month. The lack of HUD and having to wipe my mask made me slow down completely. I spent 45 minutes just creeping through one tunnel listening to the radio static. It felt more like a survival sim than any shooter I have played. Did anyone else write this off at first and then have it click during a boring shift?

Did you check your filters and air pressure before you started creeping through that tunnel? I had the same moment in the game when I realized you actually have to manage your gear and listen for threats, not just charge in. A tip for your next boring shift: turn the brightness down one more notch and use the lighter sparingly, really makes those dark tunnels feel like actual survival.

Big agree on the brightness tip, turning it down makes a huge difference. Also keeping the lighter clicks to a minimum really changes how you move through those tight spaces.
