Got talked into a $40 thermal imaging attachment for my phone
I always thought those little phone camera attachments were junk, but my neighbor used his to find a cold spot behind our living room wall last winter. Ended up showing me exactly where the insulation had settled and saved me from patching drywall all over the place. Has anyone else tried one of these or am I just lucky?

Eh, yeah they work if you get a decent one.

Spent $40 on one from Amazon and it's still going strong after 2 years. The cheap $15 ones usually break within a month or start acting flaky. Just check the ratings for the specific model you're looking at cause some brands have production defects.

Miles, that's a solid point about checking ratings cause I've seen some of those cheap ones go bad pretty quick. But here's what I'm wondering - have you actually used yours for anything useful besides drafts and insulation, like finding a water leak or something electrical that was getting hot? Because that's the part that still has me on the fence, whether it's just a one-trick pony or actually worth keeping in my toolbox for different kinds of problems around the house. I mean forty bucks isn't nothing but if it's only good for one specific thing I'd rather put that money toward something else.
