Unpopular opinion: Those 'self-watering' pots are a total scam
Bought a set of three for $45 at the garden center. The reservoir system clogged up after two weeks. My ferns got root rot and the basil drowned. Anyone else ditch these things and go back to regular pots with saucers?

Oh, tiny wicking holes? Mine had wicking holes the size of a pinprick. Guess the designers thought water needed a strict security clearance to get to the roots. The fern got so mad it turned brown and started shedding like a cat in summer.

Ain't the pots themselves just poorly designed or did you maybe pick ones with teeny tiny wicking holes?
