Remembering my grandpa's old greenhouse in Tucson
He showed me a tiny, spiky cactus when I was maybe ten, and said, 'This one's been here longer than you... it just sits and waits for rain.' It was in a cracked clay pot on a wooden bench, and he never watered it much. That simple line stuck with me more than any plant fact I learned later. Anyone else have a small moment like that that got them hooked on plants?

My dad's basil plant on our kitchen windowsill got me into gardening.

Wait, what did you grow first?

Hold up, your dad actually kept a basil plant alive indoors? That's wild. Mine killed a cactus in two weeks. Every herb he touched just turned to yellow mush. A windowsill basil surviving feels like a miracle story.
