I always figured it was a few hundred at most, but 10,000 explains why my whole driveway in September sounds like hail and why the squirrels in my yard act like they won the lottery, so has anyone actually counted the acorns from one tree in their own yard?
Did you try laying a tarp down under the tree before the drop starts? I did that two falls ago after giving up on raking and it saved me hours, you just grab the corners and drag the whole pile to the curb. The trick is getting it down early, like late August, because once those things start coming you can't keep up. I weighed mine out of curiosity and got around 40 pounds off one tree, which sounds like a lot until you remember each acorn barely weighs anything. Wear a hat if you're standing under it too, I got beaned pretty good more than once. The squirrels in my yard still got plenty even after I took my share, so don't feel bad about cleaning up.
