People keep calling pothos leaves "variegated" when the plant is just reverting and it's driving me up a wall
I run the plant swap table at our local library in Sacramento twice a month and I swear 9 out of 10 people who hand me a pothos cutting call it variegated when it's clearly just a reverted vine. Real variegation comes from stable genetics or a virus in some cases, not from a green shoot that forgot it was supposed to have cream on it. A lady last Saturday brought me a marble queen with one solid green vine and told me it was "special edition" and I had to bite my tongue. If you cut that vine back to the node where the color shows, the next leaf usually comes in patterned again, it takes about 3 to 4 nodes for it to switch back. I know it sounds picky but mislabeling spreads at swaps and then new growers pay real money for a plain green golden pothos. What do you all do when someone insists their reverted cutting is variegated, do you correct them or just take the plant?
